The neighbourhood of Morgan's Grant, is one of Ottawa’s most sought after locations in the west end, this community is in the northern section of Kanata.
The area that is Morgan's Grant today was originally part of the Township of March, and was first settled by Europeans in the early nineteenth century. It remained mainly agricultural until the 1960s when it became the site of heavy development when Bill Teron, a developer and urban planner purchased 4000 acres (16 km˛) of rural land and set about building a model community, the original town site of Kanata.
Morgan's Grant is a newer section, near all of Kanata's extensive amenities, including Kanata Recreation Complex, Kanata Centrum Power centre, one of Ottawa's largest shopping centres, and AMC Kanata 24 Theatres, but open to the quietness of rolling country and plenty of parks.
The area has been intelligently developed, with close proximity to plenty of arts groups, sports associations, golf clubs, several schools, and Kanata's high tech heart. The hiking trails around Kanata primary are easily accessed, and well known for recreational purposes or simply nature watching. With easy access to the 417, downtown is easily accessible. Although OC Transpo doesn't have a main station nearby, park and ride systems are quick drives away.
