Lanark, Ontario Location Map
Located on the western boundary of Ottawa, Lanark County is a geographically large and diverse region. Residents of Lanark County enjoy surrounding natural beauty, while being only minutes away from urban amenities.
The people of the region have access to all the amenities found in major centres while simultaneously enjoying a simpler pace which has long since been lost to large urban centres. Before amalgamation, the Township of Northwest Lanark had been composed of the Village and Township of Lanark, the Township of Darling, and the Township of Lavant, Dalhousie and North Sherbrooke. After amalgamation, the name of the new township was later renamed to the Township of Lanark Highlands.
The Village of Lanark is the main settlement with the majority of the population within its neighbourhoods. Easily accessible by country roads, country road 511 bisects the municipality.
There are several dozen lakes throughout the municipality, such as Clayton, Taylor, White, Dalhousie, Patterson, Flower Round and Clyde. They are all accessible vi the country Roads 9, 8, 16 and 12 that connect the area.
As the name suggests, the Lanark Highlands offer picturesque vistas of the surrounding lakes, hills, and Canadian Shield.
This strong community with traditional rural values is dedicated to more traditional forms of recreation. Skeet shooting, fishing, hunting, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, music groups, amateur theatre, baseball, church organizations, and women’s groups all creates a united community in Lanark.
