Located in eastern Ontario, on the banks of the Garry River, in the Township of North Glengarry, Alexandria is accessible off the Highway 401, heading North West.

A VIA Rail Canada train stop is located in the northeast part of town. With a population of almost 4,000, this lovely village is lively and active.

First settled in 1794, it was originally known as Priest’s Mill, in tribute to the grist mill founded by the first Reverend; Alexander MacDonnell. The mill still stands as a historical monument.

An active community organization supports a wide variety of interests, mainly its website which links local businesses, community events, school news, and other community events. This is complemented by the community newspaper which covers the larger Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry county area.

Since this lovely town is located along the river, the Island Park is Alexandrias gateway to the Glengarry Four Season Trail System, which winds itself through the Garry river watershed, and features both woodland and watershed areas. Boardwalks and interpretive signs are provided at marshy areas and points of interest, respectively.

Alexandria is also home to the Glengarry Sports Palace, which provides an arena, banquet hall, SDG library, meeting facilities as well as ample recreation facilities and parking accommodations. In addition, a small, private aerodrome provides a skydiving operation northeast of town.

The town supports the greater area with three elementary schools, two high schools, and a large park located in the centre of town.
