Dow’s Lake is one of Ottawa’s many unique neighbourhoods. For the most part, it is a large park located around the opening of the Rideau Canal into Dow’s Lake.

Large homes with large lots line the eastern edge of the Lake. Historically, Dows Lake was known as ‘Dows Great Swamp” and at one point stretched almost from the Rideau River to the Ottawa river, presenting a serious obstacle to Colonel By upon construction of the Rideau Canal.

Earth dams were built at each end of the swampy, densely wooded area, effectively flooding the swamp and creating the lake we see today. Dow's lake is just west of the Glebe, and beyond the lake is the Experimental Farm.

Truly the urban outdoorsman’s dream, this picturesque neighbourhood is perfect for those who enjoy walking, cycling or rollerblading along the Rideau Canal.

Several events are also hosted on Dow’s Lake and at the year –round recreational pavilion and marina located on the edge of the lake. For winterlude, and summer times war canoe races, the pavilion can get you ready for just about any sport, any season; they rent canoes, peddle boats, kayaks, in-line skates, snowshoes, cross-country skis, skates, sleighs and bikes. People often meet at the Pavilion, rent equipment, and use it to explore the waterways and the city.

Once inside, three restaurants, all featuring terraces that look out onto the lake provide a unique dining experience. There is also a gift and souvenir shop and two banquet halls on site, with full catering and banquet services available for groups of all sizes.

Most recognised for hosting Ottawa’s annual Tulip Festival each May, thousands of people kick off spring with a stroll around Dow’s Lake.
